Week of December 24, 2007


We have been working on the letter “Cc” this week. Our poem for the week was Christmas Bells. We found the Cc’s our poem. We practiced printing the capital and lowercase Cc and completed My Cc Book.
In math we are working on the teen numbers. We are learning to compare numbers up to 20 in terms of which is more and which is less. We are also writing these numbers to match groups.

Holiday Parties
Thank you to Mrs. Burrows and Mrs. Edwards who coordinated our Holiday Parties. Thank you to Mrs. Cigrand, Mrs. Colip, Mrs. Kozlowski, Mrs. O'Donnell, Mrs. Swain, Mrs. Dignan,Mrs. Dygdon, Mrs. Drazenovic, and Mrs. Purpora who organized the games and snacks. We had a great time!

Week of December 17, 2007








We have been working on the letter “Gg” this week. Our poem for the week was Where is My Gingerbread Man? We found the Gg’s our poem. We practiced printing the capital and lowercase Gg and completed My Gg Book. We read a variety of Gingerbread stories and compared and contrasted the differences in each story. We decorated gingerbread men and we did a special caring/gingerbread activity with Mrs. Hansen. We started out the week with a Gingerbread Man in our room and he ran away! We followed clues throughout the week to finally find him in Mrs. Hansen's office!
In math we are working on the numbers greater than 10. We are learning to compare numbers up to 20 in terms of which is more and which is less. We are also writing these numbers to match groups.

Week of December 10, 2007


We have been working on the letter “Rr” this week. Our poem for the week was Santa’s Reindeer. We found the Rr’s our poem and talked about punctuation marks periods and question marks. We practiced printing the capital and lowercase Rr and completed My Rr Book. We talked about the silent e in words how it changes the vowel’s sound. Our new popcorn word was like for this week.
In math, we are continuing to work on numbers 11 to 20.

Holiday Parties
Our “Holiday Party” will be held on Friday, Dec. 21 from 10:15-11:15 for the morning class and from 2:00-3:00 for the afternoon class.
The kindergarten teachers have decided to have the children bring in candies/trinkets (such as candy canes, stickers, pencils, etc.) for the class instead of purchasing a gift for a gift exchange.
In case you want to do some shopping this weekend, there are 17 students in the A.M. class and 16 students in the P.M. class. You may send in your candies/trinkets anytime during the week of December 17th. He/she will pass them out the day of the party. Each child will need to bring in that week a Christmas decorated gift bag with their name on it to hold all their goodies!

Week of December 3, 2007









We have been working on the letter “Nn” this week. Our poem for the week was November. We practiced printing the capital and lowercase Nn and completed My Nn Book. Our new popcorn word is “is”. We used magnetic letters to make words and used them in a sentence.
In math, we are learning how to copy and extend different kind of patterns. We worked on the AB, AAB and ABB patterns using unifix cubes and gluing squares to make the patterns on paper and we made chains following a pattern.

We have been working on the letter “Pp” this week. Our poem for the week was Little Pilgrim. We found the Pp’s our poem and talked about being thankful. We practiced printing the capital and lowercase Pp, worked on the My Pp Book and in our journals drew something in our “pockets”.
In math, we are learning how to copy and extend different kind of patterns. We worked on the AB, AAB and ABB patterns using unifix cubes and coloring the patterns on paper.

Week of Novemer 12, 2007


We have been working on the letter “Tt” this week. Our poem for the week was Have You Ever Seeen a Turkey? We found the Tt’s our poem and found our new popcorn word “you”. We practiced printing the capital and lowercase Tt and completed My Tt Book. We made turkeys and sang our Turkey poem together. We have been working on sounding out letters and words to write in a sentence.
In math, we will be finishing our number writing to ten. Please continue to practice writing the numbers at home. I am sending home the rhymes we have used in class to write our numbers. It will help your child to say the rhyme as they write their numbers.

Conference Time
Our conferences will be coming up at the end of November. I am sending home a conference note today. If something has come up and you can’t make the time that you signed up for, please let me know and I’ll schedule you a new time. Thank you.

We have been working on the letter “Hh” this week. Our poem for the week was 1, 2, Halloween Boo. We used spooky fingers to help us read. We practiced printing the capital and lowercase Hh and completed My Hh Book. Our new popcorn word for this week was “he”.
In math, we worked on recognizing and printing the numbers 0 to 5 and matching groups to the numbers.

Halloween Parties/Parade
Wednesday, October 31st
A.M. Parade-9:45, Party-10:15
P.M. Parade-1:30, Party-2:00
Please come and watch the parades. The AM parade is out in front of the school, and the PM parade (with the entire school) is in the field in the back of the school. The students should bring their costumes to school in a bag. We will help the students get dressed prior to the parades. Since the students will have a treat and drink at the party, no additional snack is necessary.

Picture Retakes
Picture retakes will be on November 15th at 9:15 aim. If your child is in the pm class you will need to bring them to school for picture retakes.

Week of October 22, 2007


We have been working on the letter “Bb” this week. Our poem for the week was Bats are Sleeping. We found Bb’s in our poem and the popcorn word “the”. We enjoyed singing the poem together. We practiced printing the capital B and lowercase b and completed My Bb Book. We worked on recognizing the punctuation marks: periods and question marks and why we use them in sentences. We are learning that a capital letter needs to be at the beginning of a sentence. Our new popcorn word is “can” for this week. Our homework for this week will be handwriting Bb’s and writing 1’s and 2’s.
In math, we are learning how to compare two groups to determine which group has more and less. We started number writing.

Johansen Farm Field Trip
We will be going on our field trip to Johansen’s Farm on Tuesday, October 30th. Please have your child dress appropriately for the weather. We will not be having a snack on that day, make sure your child eats a good breakfast.








On October 31st we will be having a Halloween Parade and a Halloween Party. We are short party helpers for the A.M. Halloween party. If you are willing to help, please contact our party coordinator Mrs. Burrows at amy.burrows@comcast.net. The parade will be outside and anyone is welcome! The children are to bring their costumes to school in a bag and we will dress before the parade. No makeup or weapons will be allowed.

We have been working on the letter “Jj” this week. Our poem for the week was Jack-O’Lantern. We made jack-o’lanterns focusing on the shapes used to create them. We have practiced writing Jj’s and read our Jj booklets. We are working on trying to connect letters and/or words to our pictures in our ABC Journals.


In math, we worked on recognizing and cutting out the basic shapes – circle, square, triangle and rectangle. We learned new math vocabulary for shapes (angles, lines, and points). Next week we will continue to work on identifying the shapes and patterning.

We have been working on the letter “Ll” this week. Our poem for the week was Falling Leaves. We read our poem and found color words throughout the poem. We have practiced writing Ll’s and read our Ll booklets. We used leaves to form the capital L and lowercase l. We learned about adjectives (describing words) to compose a sentence about our Superstar of the Week.

In math, we finished our chapter on sorting. We used colored goldfish crackers to sort by color. It was a tasty activity! During the month of October we will be learning to recognize the four basic shapes, patterning and number recognition and writing 0 to 10.

Kindergarten -- September 24, 2007



We have been working on the letter “s” this week. We read our poem and found s’s throughout the poem. We practiced forming the capital and lowercase letters “S” and “s” by tracing the letters in sand, using dry erase boards and on paper. We started stations this week and worked in small groups doing a variety of reading activities. We enjoyed our Silly Sock Day!

In math, we worked on sorting two attributes, such as the same size and the same color. Next week we will be completing our first math chapter on sorting. Our next chapter will focus on patterning.
