Week of 11/25/19 & Week of12/2/19

Today is the end of Trimester 1. What a wonderful first one-third of 
the year we’ve had!!  Grades will be finalized soon. I hope you have a
wonderful Thanksgiving break with your families.  This blog will include
information for the two days next week and also the following week.
Happy Thanksgiving!!



Coming Up Next Week:
Spelling:  No spelling next week; New sorts will come home on
Monday, 12/2. That menu homework will be due on or before
Friday, 12/13. 
Reading & Language Arts:  We will soon be starting our unit on culture.
Our first story is The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco. It’s a great
story about traditions in the Russian culture.
November reading logs are due back on or before December 2.
Social Science: We will be continuing our unit on modern day 
Downers Grove!  We’re also going to be starting Science on 
December 2.  Our unit is about inheritance and traits.
Mrs. Walega's Math Class: We will continue our unit on multiplication.
 Here is the schedule for our Multiplication Facts:
 
week of 12/2: x2 facts
week of 12/9: x5 facts
week of 12/16: x10 facts

We will resume after break in the following order: x11, x3, x4, x6, x7, x8, x9, and x12. The order is so we get the easier facts done first and build confidence and practice over time. Please have your child use flashcards or other games or strategies to practice facts every night to build math fluency!  Thank you!

11/27-11/29 - Days off for Thanksgiving
12/10 - Early Dismissal (11:00)
12/17 - Third Grade goes bowling
12/20 - Last day before winter break

Week of 11/18/19-11/22/19





Our DG field trip was Monday. We had a great time exploring
Downers Grove and eating pizza at Giordanos. Thank you to
Mrs. Hines, Mr. McCraney, Mrs. Pepin, and Mrs. Witte for
chaperoning our trip!
The end of trimester 1 is November 22. Please make sure you’re
checking those grades!


Our bowling field trip is coming up on December 17.
If your child would like a snack while there, I am attaching the
link to pre-order those snacks.  This is the only way students
will be able to get them.  
Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  The due date for the spelling menu homework is 11/22.
There will be a test on that day as well.



Reading & Language Arts:  The finished turkeys are due back on Monday.
We will be using these “disguised” turkeys to write
a persuasive paragraph convincing the farmer not to eat him for
Thanksgiving dinner.


November reading logs are due back on or before December 1.


Social Science: We will be starting our unit on modern day 
Downers Grove!


Mrs. Walega's Math Class: We are beginning to learn our
multiplication facts. Next week we will focus on the 0's and 1's
multiplication facts. We will have a multiplication quiz on Friday.
Practice these with flashcards or online.

Week of 11/11/19-11/15/19

Week of 11/11/19 - 11/15/19


Monday is Veterans’ Day and here at PV we have a wonderful assembly
honoring our own veterans (those who have a connection to our Panthers.)
Please contact the office if you are or know a veteran who would like
to join us on Monday.  

Coming Up Next Week:
Spelling:  New spelling words and a new menu will be coming home on
Tuesday.  The due date is 11/22.
Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll continue our Myths unit this week.
We’ll also be making veterans cards!  
November reading logs are now in your possession.  They are due back 
on or before December 1.
Social Science: We will be doing a unit on modern day Downers Grove!
Mrs. Walega's Math Class: We are starting a new unit in math. It is an
introduction to Multiplication. We will be laying the foundation for
multiplication by using arrays and repeated addition.
