READING
                    Next week we will be learning about poetry.  We learn how poems have rhyme, rhythm, repetition and beats.  We will do a close reading of a poem.   
                           MATH
        Next week we will begin a chapter on 2-digit addition.  We will be using strategies to help solve 2-digit addition problems. 

 Student  of the Week
EJ is the Student of the Week!  He likes to play video games, play soccer and is good at math.   His favorite animal is a wolf and his favorite color is black.   When EJ grows up he wants to be in the air force.

Halloween Partries/Parade
Tuesday, October 31st
 Parade-12:45, Party-1:15
Please come and watch the parade.  The students should bring their costumes to school in a bag.  We will put them on prior to the parade starting.  Only our parent volunteers will be able to be at the party.  No makeup will be applied at school and no toy weapons are allowed.

READING
           Next week we will be working on fact and opinion.  We will be reading several stories and then write an opinion piece.  Our reading logs are due on November 1st.  We voted to have a Stuffed Animal Day as a reward. 

Spelling Test will be on Thursday, October 26th.

                           MATH
   Next week we will be working on number patterns and comparing numbers.  We will be taking our chapter test, addition and subtraction five minute tests. 

 Student  of the Week
Elaina is the Student of the Week!  She likes to play the piano, takes swimming lessons and has hermit crabs as pets.  Her favorite animal is a wolf and her favorite color is light blue. When Elaina grows up she wants to a Veterinarian.




The Darien Woodridge Fire Fighters came to talk to us about fire safety.  We learned the importance of getting out of a building safely if there was a fire and to have a meeting place outside.

READING
          Next week we will continue working on our research of hippos and tortoises.  We will be reading a story called Tarra and Bella.  It is a story about an elephant and a dog that form an unique friendship.  We will be comparing this story to Owen and Mzee which also is about two animals who form an unusual friendship. 
                          
 MATH
          Next week we continue writing numbers to 1,000 in different ways.  We will count forward and backwards by 10 and 100 to find the new value of the number.


Student  of the Week
Sophia is the Student of the Week!  She likes to play soccer, jump on her trampoline and has pets.  Her favorite animal is a dolphin, and her favorite colors are pink and blue.   When Sophia grows up she wants to be a Veterinarian.

READING
                  Next week we will be researching the hippopotamus and the tortoise.  We will be writing a paragraph on one of the animals after we learn facts and information about them. 
       
                      
         
MATH
          Next week we will be working on 3-digit numbers, hundreds, tens, and ones, using place value to 1,000.
