READING
Thank you for helping your child complete the beautiful dioramas and posters for our Animal Project.  They will be on display at Open House.

          Book Clubs
We have been learning about Book Clubs.  Book Clubs are groups of students reading the same book and meeting together to discuss what they have read.  The purpose of Book Club is to allow students to discuss, respond to, and think about real literature.  We have been learning about what makes a successful Book Club and polite conversation starters.  The children have also been introduced to 5 roles that will guide their discussions. These roles are: Qualified Questioner, Character Captain, Word Watcher, Passage Picker, and Valuable Visualizer.  These roles help students think about and focus on critical literary elements and reading strategies.  During Book Club, each member of the group will be responsible for a different role.  They will be provided time to read an assigned reading and complete their role sheet prior to meeting as a Book Club.  Book Clubs allow students to practice authentic reading behaviors while  actively participating in sharing their ideas and building meaning from what they have read.
