READING
            We will be doing some reading/writing end of the year activities. We will be working on writing activities to reflect over the things we liked about second grade and what we will miss when we move on to third grade.

 Ipads
On Tuesday, May 30th, we will be collecting the Ipads and chargers.  Please make sure you return it to school to be checked in on that day.

Thank you to all the parents for running our parties.   I appreciate all who sent in treats for the parties and those who helped organized the games.  Thank you to Mrs. Raftis, Mrs. Milad and Mrs. Martyka who were our copy moms all year.  It was a great year!!



It’s hard to believe that we have completed this school year.  The children have come so far since that first day of school in August.  I am very pleased with the progress they have made.  Thank you for all the support you have given to your children and me, which has helped make this such a positive experience for all. 
            I want the children to have a wonderful and restful summer.  There are some activities that you can do over the summer to ensure a smooth transition for your child to third grade.  Please take your child to the library for frequent visits.  Encourage them to read to themselves, to you, and to one another.    Continue to practice math flashcards, working especially with addition and subtraction facts, practice counting money and telling time.  These activities, which do not take much time, but it will give your child a wonderful boost for those first days of school in third grade.
            I have enjoyed teaching your children and watching them grow over the year.  I will truly miss them as they move on to third grade.

READING
            We worked hard on writing our pen pal letters.  We mailed them to our pen pals.  We look forward to meeting them Wednesday.

           
                   MATH
                                    We will continue to work on the basics of multiplication and division.  We will also take our last addition and subtraction timed tests.

Du Page Children’s Museum
We had a great time at the museum!  Thank you to Mrs. Martyka, Mrs. Milad and Mrs. Raftis for being chaperones on our trip. 

Brookfield Zoo Trip
          We need a couple of chaperones for the Brookfield Zoo trip.  Send me an email if you are interested in chaperoning.

Picnic Day 
We are in need of empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls for a craft project on Picnic Day.  Please send these in to school by May 31st.

READING
          We received our pen pal letters from Mrs. Lopez’s third grade class.  We will be learning how to compose a friendly letter.  We will write a letter back to our pen pals.  We will get to meet our pen pals on May 24th

                               MATH
                        Next week we will learn about division.  We will be dividing groups into equal shares and then connect subtraction to division.     

Science
          We are learning about nutrition and eating healthy.   We will be learning about the five food groups and what foods belong in each group.

Field Trip
On Monday, May 15th we will be going on our field trip to the DuPage Children’s Museum.  We will be leaving at 8:30, so please make sure your child is on time for school.  There will be no hot lunch that day.  Please make sure they have a sack lunch. We will be eating our lunch when we return to school.

READING
          Next week we will be reading folktales and fables.  We will discuss the moral and central message of the story.

           
                   MATH
                          Next week we are starting a new chapter on arrays, multiplication and division.  We'll learn to multiply numbers in any order, learn what happens when we multiply with  1 and 0, and we'll solve problems by writing number sentences. 

Science
We are starting a unit about nutrition and eating healthy.   We will be learning about the five food groups and what foods belong in each group.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
A special thank you to the PTO  for organizing all the special treats this week.  Thank you for the cards, flowers and gifts!   I love teaching your children. They are very special to me.  I have truly enjoyed working with each one of them this year.  I will be sad to see them go on to third grade.  I will miss them very much.
          Thank you to all of you who participated in this week’s meals.  The food was very good and it was so nice of you to think of the teachers.  It was very much appreciated!


MAPS Testing
Next week we will be taking the MAPS test on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast.
