READING
            Our next story will be A Trip to the Firehouse.  It is about a group of children who take a trip to the firehouse and learn about how they do their job.
            In phonics we will be focusing on the vowel pairs ay, ai  and compound words.
            Vocabulary words are chief, dispatch, emergencies, fire engine, firefighters, gear.
            Comprehension strategies are Topic/Main Idea/Details.
                        In grammar we will be working on Proper Nouns.
           
           
           
                   MATH
                                   
            We will be finishing up our chapter on money next week.  Our next chapter will be on telling time.  We will be learning to tell time to the quarter hour and in 5 minute increments.  Practice telling time at home with your child.


Box Tops Collections
We are still collecting box tops for education.  Check if any products at home have the box tops to add to our collection.  Thanks!


Student  of the Week
Layla is the Student of the Week!  She likes to play with her American Girl dolls, do cheerleading and spend time with her family . Her favorite animal is dog. Her favorite colors are pink and purple.   When Layla grows up she wants to be an Singer.

READING                                             
            Our next story will be Jamaica Louise James.  It is about a girl who loves to draw and paint.  To surprise her grandmother on her birthday, she hangs up her artwork at the subway station where her grandmother works. 
            In phonics we will be focusing on the vowel pairs ee, ea and the endings -tion and -ture.
            Vocabulary words are booth, station, token, plaque, subway and mayor.
            Comprehension strategies are evaluating and making inferences. 
                        In grammar we will be working on nouns that change the spelling in the plural.
           
           
                   MATH
                                   
            We are counting with half-dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies.  Next week our new chapter will be a continuation of counting coins.

  Student  of the Week
Micah is the Student of the Week!  She likes to swim, read books and help others.   Her favorite animal is a dog.  Her favorite is light green.   When Micah grows up she wants to be a Singer.





Parent/Teacher Conferences
Spring parent/teacher conferences are on an “as needed” basis.  I will contact you if I feel a conference is necessary at this time.

READING
           
            Our story for next week will be Mrs. Brown Went to Town, by Wong Herbert Yee.  This story is about a woman whose farm animal move into her house while she is away.  They have a lot of fun! 
            We will be working on the comprehension strategies of predicting outcomes and connecting and comparing.  Phonics lessons will include the long vowels a and i following a cvce pattern (consonant, vowel, consonant, silent e)  Vocabulary words will be commotion, wearing, delivered, tire, feathers, releases.  High-frequency story words are floor, letter, move, poor and word.  Our grammar lessons will focus on verbs.                                     
           
           
                   MATH
                                   
            We will be finishing our chapter on money next week, with a test on Friday.  Our next chapter will be continuing with counting money.  Practice counting money with your child.  They should know the value of the coins and how to add on to get the total value for a collection of coins.

Service Project
We did a great job collecting 102 cans for the food pantry.  Thank you to everyone for doing your part to help others.






Valentine’s Day Party
Thank you our Valentine’s Day party was great!  Thank you to Mr. Moy, Ms. Richel, Mrs. Downes, and Mrs. Ciocan who organized our games and ran our party.   Thank you to Mrs. Donaldson, Mrs. Eder, Mrs. Johnson, and Mrs. Donatelli for supplying the snacks for our party.  Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated!  The children had a wonderful time!

 Student  of the Week
Drew is the Student of the Week!  He likes to go to waterparks, ride his snow motorcycle and build with legos.  His favorite animal is a penguin. His favorite colors are black and red.   When Drew grows up he wants to be a Construction Boss.






Valentine’s Day Party
On Friday, Feb. 14th we will have a Valentine's Day party.  Your child may bring one valentine for every child in the class (21 students).  Please make sure that your child signs the valentines but doesn’t address them.  We will be passing them out to our classmates before the party.

Thank you to the PTO for the Prokids Assembly last Friday.  We enjoyed it!

Valentine Cereal Boxes
Each child needs to bring in an empty cereal box for our valentines.  Please bring these in by Tuesday so we can complete a special valentine project.

Service Project
We are collecting 100 can of food for the West Suburban Food Pantry.  We will be collecting these items until our 100th day of school which will be on Feb. 13th.  Thank you.
