READING
          Next week we will continue working on our research project.  We are researching a country and finding out what kind of libraries they have in the country.  We will be doing a slide presentation to the class about our country.


           
                   MATH
                                    Next week we will continue our chapter on counting money, making change and counting money values over a dollar.  Please have your child practice counting various coins at home.
           

 Student  of the Week
Shivang is the Student of the Week!  He likes to build legos, play the drums, and do obstacle courses.   His favorite animal is a bunny. His favorite colors are gold, green and silver.   When Shivang grows up, he wants to be a  Doctor.

READING
            Next week we will begin a research project on a foreign country.  We will be finding information on our country and filling out a graphic organizer.  We will be learning about text features and what important information we need to include about our country.


           
                   MATH
                                    Next week we will start our chapter on time and money.  We will be learning how to count the coins quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies and write the amount of coins given.   Please have your child practice counting various coins at home.
           
  Student  of the Week
Louie is the Student of the Week!  He likes to build things with his legos, do front flips and can run very fast.   His favorite animal is a dog. His favorite color is black.   When Louie grows up, he wants to be an Actor.





Valentines Project

Parent/Teacher Conferences
            Spring parent/teacher conferences are on an “as needed” basis.  I will contact you if I feel a conference is necessary at this time.

READING
          Next week we will be reading the stories, Biblioburro and My Librarian is a Camel.  These stories are about lending libraries.  We will focus on questioning as we read the stories.  In grammar, we will learn about synonyms and antonyms. 


Money Needed!
**Please make sure you send in the following coins in a baggie (with your child's name on it) please include the following coins:  20 pennies, 10 nickels, 10 dimes and 7 quarters.**  They will take them home after our money chapter.  Please send this in by Tuesday, January 17th


           
                   MATH
                                  Next week, we will finish our chapter on 3 digit addition and subtraction and have a chapter test.  We will begin a chapter on counting money in math.  Please review the names of the coins and their values.  Practice counting a group of various coins.


Valentine Shoe Boxes
            Each child needs to bring in an empty shoe box for our valentines.  Please bring these in by February 1st.  We will need some volunteers to wrap the boxes with white paper.  Let me know if you can help us!

READING
          Next week we will be reading a story called That Book Woman.   It is about a family living in the Appalachian Mountains in the 1930's.  They get books to read during the regular visits of the "Book Woman"—a librarian who rides a pack horse through the mountain.

MAPS Testing
          Next week we will be having the MAPS test on the Ipads every day.  Please make sure your child brings their Ipad to school fully charged, gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast.

           
                   MATH
                                  Next week, we will work on 3 digit addition and 3 digit subtraction.  Please practice math facts with your child.

Kane County Cougars
          In January and February  we will be earning a reward from Pizza Hut and the Kane County Cougars.   Each student that turns in their completed reading log in January and February will receive a free game ticket,  a complimentary hot dog, drink and a drawstring bag.  Keep reading!
