Week of March 24, 2008









We read our weekly poem, The Umbrella’s Treat Our new popcorn word was “of”. We completed our “Uu” books and practiced writing the letter “Uu”. We are working on identifying the popcorn words and using them in a complete sentence. We celebrated Q and U's wedding day!
In math we did a sorting project using Lucky Charms. First each child received a cup full of cereal. Next, we sorted the marshmallows into different shapes. Then we completed the paper and snacked on the cereal.

Character Counts
The pillar for April is Citizenship. Are you a good citizen? “I am a good citizen because I throw away my garbage in the garbage can.” “ I follow the classroom rules.” “I follow the rules when I ride the bus.” We will be wearing purple on Fridays.




Spring Break
Things to do on Spring Break:
Read with your child.
Practice reading popcorn words.
Write and illustrate page “What I did over Spring Break”.
Enjoy Spring activities with your child!



Supplies Needed
We are running low on baby wipes for our classroom. I would appreciate it if anyone could send in a tub of baby wipes after spring break. Thanks.



Horton Hears a Who Fundraiser

Week of March 17, 2008





We read our weekly poem, Let Q Call U Sweetheart. Our new popcorn word was “are”. We completed our Qq books and practiced writing the letter “Qu”. We learned that “q” and “u” are partner letters in words.
.In math we talked about telling time to the hour. We compared analog clocks to digital clocks. We are working on telling time to the hour. Help your child by noting dinner time, bedtime, etc.

Book-It Reading Program
Our Pizza Hut Book-It reading program is over as of April 1st. You may still turn in your March reading forms throughout the first week of April to receive your child’s March pizza certificate. We will continue to send home a reading sheet that you may return at the end of the month. Tickets to Six Flags Great America will be rewarded at the end of the year to children who have already turned in the Six Flags Read to Succeed sheets.



Homework
I am sending home the videotape entitled, Letter Sound Songs for your child to view. The tape is due to school on April 2nd.



Report Cards/Conferences
Thank you for attending conferences this past week. Please remember to sign your child’ report card envelope and return it to school. Thanks.

Week of March 10, 2008




We read our weekly poem, Kite. Our new popcorn word was “go”. We completed our Kk books and practiced writing the letter “Kk”. We made kites to go along with our poem.
In math we talked about using the terms “first”, “next” and “last”. We cut out pictures and put them in the correct sequential order. We also reviewed numbers to 50, shapes and patterns.

Robert Crown Field Trip
We enjoyed our trip to the Robert Crown Health Center. We learned about the food pyramid, eating a good breakfast, getting plenty of exercise and sleep. We watched a video, sang and danced to a song and watched a puppet show. At the end of the presentation everyone received a “warm fuzzy” to pass along to someone else to make him/her feel good.


Spring Pictures
Spring pictures were taken on Thursday. Once the photos arrive, you will have the option of purchasing them or returning the package. More information will be sent at a later date.


If you have not sent in the following coins for math please bring them in by Monday, March 10th. Make sure they are in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it.
