Week of June 2, 2008








This will be our last newsletter for the year. We read our weekly poem, Graduation Day. We have been learning to read our color words and writing a sentences in our ABC countdown books. Our popcorn word forr this week was “for”.
In math we are continuing to work on subtraction.

Graduation Day
Kindergarten Graduation will take place on Wednesday, June 4 at 10:00 for the A.M. class and 2:00 for the P.M. class. The children should dress nicely and they will be wearing a graduation cap.
Children are to arrive at school that day at their normal time. Parents and other family members that would like to attend should arrive a little bit before 10:00 or 2:00 and go directly to the gym. The ceremony should last 30-45 minutes. There will be a short reception in the classroom following the ceremony. Children are allowed to go home with their parents at this time or they may stay and ride the bus home at their normal departure time.


Picnic Day
We had a great time at picnic day. We played games outside and ate lunch in the lunchroom like First Graders! It was fun!





Summer Vacation
I have enjoyed teaching your children and watching them grow over the year. I will truly miss them as they move on to first grade. If you would like to write to me over the summer here is my address:

Week of May 27, 2008





We read our weekly poem, Colors We have been working on reading the color words and working on assessments for the end of the school year. We have been reviewing all our popcorn words by writing them in sentences in our ABC Countdown Journals. Our popcorn word for this week was “blue”.
In math we are continuing to work on subtraction.

Graduation Day

Picnic Day
May 30th is our picnic day. Children will attend school at their regular times that day. Both A.M. and P.M. classes will receive a plain hamburger, chips and a drink at no charge to them. If your child does not want a hamburger, please pack a lunch for him/her to eat at school.

Week of May 19, 2008





We read our weekly poem, The Color Song. We are learning the color words. We found all the color words and colored them the correct color. We have been working on reading the color words and working on assessments for the end of the school year.
In math we are working on subtraction. Your child is beginning to read the symbols, such as minus (-) and be able to solve subtraction problems.

Graduation Day
On June 4th we will have our Kindergarten Graduation. The children come to school at their regular school time. They should dress nicely for graduation. The graduations are at 10:00 for the am class and 2:00 for the pm class. Anyone is welcome to attend!
Public Library Visit
Next Thursday we will be listening to a presentation given by one of our local libraries. Most libraries offer summer reading programs that are fun and motivate the children to read. Visit your local libraries for more information on these programs. Your children would greatly benefit from reading over the summer.






Zoo Trip
Thank you to all the chaperones who helped to make the zoo trip a success. The children had good time seeing all the animals we learned about in school.

ABC Countdown
Thank you for sending ice cream cups, lollipops and Goldfish crackers this week. The class really enjoyed them.

Week of May 12, 2008






We read our weekly poem, Five Little Tadpoles. We have been reading fiction and non-fiction books about frogs. We have been writing a sentence and illustrating in our ABC Countdown Books. We worked on a special Mother’s Day Project.
In math we have been working on the writing and solving subtraction problems. Put some objects on a table and take some away, how many are left. Have your child tell you the math problem.

Field Trip
On Thursday, May 15th we will be going on our field trip to Brookfield Zoo. Please make sure that your child brings a disposable sack lunch with their name on the bag. Our zoo trip is outside all day, so please make sure your child is dress appropriately for the weather.


TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
A special thank you to the PTO for organizing all the special treats this week. I love teaching your children. They are very special to me. I have truly enjoyed working with each one of them this year. I will be sad to see them go on to first grade. I will miss them very much.
Thank you to all of you who participated in this week’s meals. The food was very good and it was so nice of you to think of the teachers. It was very much appreciated!

Week of May 5, 2008





We read our weekly poem, A Little Seed. We have been reading fiction and non-fiction stories about plants. Our new popcorn word this week was “little”. We have been writing in our ABC Countdown Journals daily about the special activity of the day. We are working on starting sentences with a capital letter and ending with punctuation marks.
In math we have been working on subtraction. Put some objects on a table and take some away, how many are left. Have your child tell you the math problem.

We had eight tadpoles in our class but they all passed away. We adopted one from Mrs. Finn's class. We will watch its growth and development. It is an African Water Frog and it can reach 3 ½” long. The water frog can live in an aquarium just like fish when it is full grown.

Book Fair
Thank you to all the children who purchased gift certificates from the book fair for our classroom. It was very generous and thoughtful of you! We are enjoying reading the new books in class.
