Week of 1/13/20-1/17/20

We have hit the ground running and are working hard in 2020.  A lot of projects are being worked on in room 109 and many are coming up!
Keep an eye on that assignment notebook and this weekly blog.

Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling:  Spelling homework will be due on or before January 17.
There will be a test on those words on Friday as well.

Reading & Language Arts:  We are continuing our unit on culture and traditions. We are doing an informative/persuasive writing unit on what animal teeth we would want to have and why after reading If I Had Animal Teeth.  We are finishing up the projects and will read a book called The Matchbox Diary as we learn about another way people treasure and keep special objects as a tradition.

Social Science: We continue our science unit on inheritance
and traits. We’ll also be diving in to our Communities Social Studies
textbook to begin our unit on culture and immigration. We will start
ch. 3 on immigration. We will tie this unit into our ELA curriculum as we focus
on culture, tradition and where our ancestors and relatives have come from.
Look for information about our culture day projects coming in a few weeks.
Here’s how this unit plays out: We’ll read a lesson (there are 4,) take notes,
then take an open book/open note quiz.  The first one will be on
Wednesday and I will model how to find the answers using the book
and notes.  This is a great unit to demonstrate good study skills!

Mrs. Walega's Math Class: We are starting Unit 4 on measurement and fractions. We began with telling time to the minute and working on elapsed time.  This can be a tricky concept, so its a good skill to practice at home. We will work on metric measurement next. We are also working with 4's multiplication facts with a test on Fri. 1/17.
