READING
We have been working on learning our Daily 5 routine.  This is our stations that we use during guided reading.   This week our story was McDuff Moves In by Rosemary Wells.  We worked on the comprehension strategy of text-to-self connections.  We are sharing our reading lives with each other and building a reading community in our classroom.  Next week we will continue to make text-to-self connections with the story Sheila Rae, the Brave by Kevin Henkes.

            Curriculum Night
Thank you for attending Curriculum Night and signing up to help in the classroom.  If you were unable to make it to Curriculum Night, I have sent home the information that was handed out last night.

 MATH
In math we are working on adding numbers to 18.  Next week we will be learning the strategy adding three numbers and draw a picture to solve a story problem.  We will be finishing this chapter next week.  We will have our chapter test on Thursday.  Our next chapter will be on subtraction facts and strategies.

Social Studies
We have been working on map skills.  We learned the difference between using a map and a globe and how to use a map key to read a map.

Student of the Week
We will be starting Student of the Week in our classroom.  The children are chosen randomly to be our “Student of the Week”.  When it is your child's turn please make sure you return the poster to us on Monday.  You are invited to be a guest reader in our classroom and read one of your child's favorite books to the class on either Wednesday or Thursday at 2:45 of that week.
If those times don't work with your schedule, please let me know so we can set up a better time for you to read to the class.  Each day that your child is student of the week they can bring in a show and tell item to share with our class.  We want to learn more about our friends at school!
