READING

Our next story will be Jamaica Louise James.  It is about a girl who loves to draw and paint.  To surprise her grandmother on her birthday, she hangs up her artwork at the subway station where her grandmother works.
In phonics we will be focusing on the vowel pairs ee, ea and the endings -tion and -ture.
Vocabulary words are booth, station, token, plaque, subway and mayor.
Comprehension strategies are evaluating and making inferences.
In grammar we will be working on nouns that change the spelling in the plural.

                               MATH

We have finished our chapter on counting money.  Our test will be on Monday.  We are counting with half-dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies.  Next week our new chapter will be a continuation of counting coins.

Science
We started a new unit on living things.  We are learning the difference between non-living and living things and what animals and plants need in order to survive.

Handwriting
We will be starting to learn how to write letters in cursive.   I will be sending home homework to practice the letters we are working on in school.

Reading Logs
We did not have many children turn in their reading logs for the month of December.  Please remember to have your child read for 20 minutes daily and record it on their logs.  This is part of their homework assignments.  Our January logs will be due on February 1st.

Holiday Party
Thank you to Mrs. Norkus for organizing our holiday party.  Thank you to Mrs. Marten, Mrs. McGlynn, Mr. Burisek and Mrs. Schoeberle for the games at the party.  We had a great time!
