READING

      After break, we will be reading an article called Little Free Libraries.  We will be finding evidence in the text to answer questions.  In grammar, we will be learning about adverbs.  Over break, don’t forget to have your child read books.

            After break, we will be working on 3 digit addition and subtraction.  Please don’t forget to practice math flashcards.

Shaan is the Student of the Week!  He likes to run fast, play the drums, and climb rock walls.   His favorite animal is a dog.  His favorite color is red.   When Shaan grows up he wants to be a Computer Mechanic.





Holiday Party

READING

            Next week we will be doing Christmas Around the world, Holiday Customs and holiday activities.   We will be sharing our Holiday Customs next week.    Reading logs are due January 3rd. 

           
                   MATH
                                    Next week we will be finishing our chapter on 2 digit subtraction.  We will have a review and a chapter test next week.  After that we will be doing holiday math activities.

Social Studies
             Next week we will be learning about Christmas Around the World.  We will learn about the customs of five different countries in the world.  We will be learning about France, Italy,  Sweden, Israel and Mexico.  Look for the Christmas Around the World folder to come home next week.

Paul is the Student of the Week!  He likes to run fast, sing songs and play baseball.   His favorite animal is an elephant.  His favorite colors are green, red, blue and black.   When Paul grows up he wants to be a Scientist.

READING

           Next week we will be writing opinion pieces. We will be giving reasons and details to support our opinion.
     Next week I will be sending home a sheet to fill out for our Holiday Traditions Project.  This will be due the week of December 12th

           
                   MATH
                                    Next week we will continue to work on 2-digit subtraction.  This is difficult for some children.  Practicing the subtraction math facts would be very helpful.

Reading Logs
          For the month of November the class earned Show and Tell Day for turning in their reading logs.  Let’s try to get 100% reading logs turned in for the month of December.  The class voted for a Hat Day for turning in their December Reading Log.

 Student  of the Week
J’lani is the Student of the Week!  She  likes to play soccer, take ballet classes and play games with her brother.  Her favorite animal is a dog.  Her favorite colors are blue, black and red.   When J’lani grows up she wants to be a Teacher.

READING
            After Thanksgiving,  we will be reading the story called Officer Mike and Aero.  It is a non-fiction story about a police officer and his dog.  We will be comparing it to the story Officer Buckle and Gloria.  We will work on the comprehension strategy of main idea and supporting details. 
           
                          MATH
                                
            After Thanksgiving, we will be working on 2-digit subtraction.  Practicing subtraction facts will help your child. 

Student  of the Week
Eliza is the Student of the Week!  She likes to dance, do art projects and gymnastics.    Her favorite animal is a cat.  Her favorite color is blue.   When Eliza grows up she wants to be a Teacher.




2nd Grade Musical
The children did a great job at the musical last night!  Thank you to Ms. Goldenberg for leading such a great show!  I am very proud of them!

READING
            Our next story is called Officer Buckle and Gloria.  It is a humorous fictional story about a policemen who loves to give safety tips to school children, but nobody every listens – until he brings a dog named Gloria. We will work on main idea and supporting details.   
             
                          MATH
          Next week we will continue to work on adding 2-digit numbers.  We will also be adding 3-digit and 4-digit numbersPracticing addition facts will help your child.

Veteran’s Day    
Thank you to Mr. Conley for talking to us about Veteran’s Day.  We learned about why we have Veteran’s Day and about veterans.  We wrote letters to a veteran to thank them for serving our country.

Music Program
          On November 17th we will be performing at Lakeview Jr. High.  The children are to wear a “fall color” shirt and either jeans or khaki pants.  Make sure your child arrives at 6:45.  The performance will begin at 7:00.

          Next week we will be learning about poetry.  We learn how poems have rhyme, rhythm, repetition and beats.  We will do a close reading of a poem.

Next week we will be working on using equations to solve problems, equal groups and repeated addition.  We will also be taking our monthly addition and subtraction timed tests.

Our afternoon snack is working out great for the children!  We are more energetic for math!

                  Next week we will continue working on our research of hippos and tortoises.  We will be reading a story called Tarra and Bella.  It is a story about an elephant and a dog that form an unique friendship.  We will be comparing this story to Owen and Mzee which also is about two animals who form an unusual friendship. 
                                      
           MATH
          In math we will be starting a new chapter.  We will be learning the addition strategies of adding doubles, making a ten, and adding three addends.

              Next week we will be researching the hippopotamus and the tortoise.  We will be writing a paragraph on one of the animals after we learn facts and information about them. 

                          MATH
          Next week we will be working on counting forwards and backwards, looking for patterns and problem solving.  We will have a chapter test next week. 
Reading Logs
          The children did a great job of turning in their reading logs for September!  They earned a “Stuffed Animal Day”.  For the month of October we will be working towards a Pizza Hut Coupon and a pajama day in the classroom.

            Next week we will be learning about different ways to write numbers up to 1,000.  We will be looking for patterns within numbers and use the strategy of counting on and counting back.

          Next week we will be reading a story Next week we will be reading the book called The Name Jar.  This story is about a young girl named Unhei, who moves from Korea and goes to school in America for the first time.  Other children can’t pronounce her name and tease her, so the thinks about choosing an American name.  We will be discussing and writing about how to treat our friends.  Another story we will read is about two unlikely animals that become friends

                                     MATH
          Next week we will be working on reading and writing 3-digit numbers.  Please practice addition and subtraction facts with your child.

Robbie is the Student of the Week!  He likes to play soccer, wrestle and go to WWE events.   His favorite animal is a dog and his favorite colors are green, blue and pink.   When Robbie grows up he wants to be a You-tuber.
