READING

Next week we will be reading the story Eat My Dust! Henry Ford’s First Race by Monica Kulling.  This story recounts how Henry Ford won his first car race and used his prize money to realize his dream of building a car that everyone could afford.  We will be working on the comprehension skill of making text-to-self connections and reading independently.  We will also start our writing program called Being a Writer.
Next week we will begin spelling.  We will using the program Words Their Way.  Each week the children will be working with words and putting the words into sorts.  They will have a spelling test on Friday.  The test will be on 10 of the words they have been working on all week.  A letter will be coming home on Monday explaining how to do your spelling homework with your child.

                        MATH

In math we are finishing our chapter on addition. We reviewed the strategies adding three numbers and draw a picture to solve a story problem.   We will have a chapter test next week.  Our next chapter will be on subtraction.
Please remember to review math facts with your child.

Social Studies
We have been continuing to work on map skills.  We have learned how to use a compass rose, map grid and map scale when reading maps.

Magazine Drive
The Magazine Drive started this week with a short assembly.  Packets went home with the children.  The class with the most participation and collecting the most money will win a pizza party.  If you need more forms, you may pick them up in the office, or e-mail me and I’ll send them home with your child.
